"This is our event."

Wild North only happens thanks to the support of our volunteers. All of our volunteers help in different ways, including:

• Convention Operations (Con Ops), providing all areas of the con with the equipment they need.

• Activities planning and running.

• Welfare, keeping our attendees safe and looked after.

• Overseeing Wild North’s finances, insurance, and paperwork (the Organisers, our core team, are volunteers too!)

With the fantastic increase in interest and attendee numbers for 2025, several opportunities have opened for attendees to help make Wild North happen. Here are the roles on offer, and a little detail about each of them.

Welfare

Would you like to make Wild North safer and friendlier for everyone? We are looking for people to volunteer a shift between activities: to listen to attendees, to make sure they’re looked after, and to offer care and support.

No specific experience is required: the most important thing is a willingness to help others. That said, we’re keen to hear if you have experience as a welfare person, a mental health advocate, or the like.

This is not a counselling role, and it is only intended as an initial point of contact. If required, we will direct the person to appropriate support, which may be first aid or professional support.

First Aiders

Fairly self-explanatory: we seek qualified first aiders to assist our attendees. Working in a team and taking shifts of about 4-5 hours, you will be on call to look after our attendees in case of accident.

The minimum qualification required for this role is Emergency First Aid at Work (typically a one-day course). We will ask to see your first aid certificate from a suitable training provider such as St John’s Ambulance or the British Red Cross.

Audio-Visual Support

This involves setting up and managing our video and sound systems for events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Some understanding of and experience with AV equipment and electronics would be a plus.

Registration

nsuring we record people’s registrations accurately when they sign up. This role involves oversight of our registration system during the run-up to WN (don’t worry, we plan to overhaul it before next year!), as well as answering reg-related queries.

No specific experience required, as we will show you around our systems. However, if you have worked reg at other events, and/or you have customer service experience, that will be useful.

Stewards

Helping our attendees to navigate our venue, directing them to and from con spaces/bedrooms/restaurants, and checking people are wearing their con badge in con space. You may be called upon to explain to a non-attendee, ‘what on earth this event is all about’ – but you can always radio an organiser or experienced steward for help. Again, we are mainly looking for people who are willing to help others.

Artist

The furry fandom and Wild North have plenty of talented artists, and we are always keen to hear your ideas for adding an animal twist to our castle home. If you’d like to create some art and design pieces for physical display, print, and web, alongside our Creative lead, we’d love to hear from you.

Interested?

If any of these roles interest you, or you would like to find out more, please email us at events@wildnorth.uk.

For all these roles (except Artists), you will need to be attending Wild North 2025. The roles are open to non-residential attendees, but if we require you on site at certain times, we ask that you remain on site during those times, and make sure you're fit and available to help.

We're particularly keen to hear from our new attendees – and not just for the roles above. Reckon you can help us in any way? Got some other ideas for WN? Any questions? Please email us.

Whichever role you’re interested in, you will have the full support of our experienced organiser team. We have been running Wild North since 2018, and many of us volunteered at furry events for several years before, so we will be happy to help.

We look forward to hearing from people as September draws ever closer!
